27 June 2010 | After the fall of apartheid more people denounce apartheid

In 2007 I wrote the following article for an Arabic quarterly. As a member of the Holland Committee on Southern Africa I participated in campaigns in support of the liberation movements in Southern Africa. There are striking similarities in the way black South Africans and Palestinians were and are systematically excluded by respectively the white South African apartheid regime and the Israeli regime. The comparison between apartheid South Africa and Israel boils down to flagrant violations of international law and human rights. The institutionalized, systematic way Israel denies and violates the rights of Palestinians and the Israeli policies of segregation are similar to the methods the South African apartheid regime.
